A: SPD, also known as surge arrester, is designed to protect electrical equipment from voltage surges caused by lightning strikes or grid switching. It diverts excess surge current to ground and keeps the output voltage safe for your devices.

A: Under normal working conditions, the service life is about 8‑12 years. Most models come with a visual failure indicator window. When the window turns red, the SPD needs to be replaced immediately.
